How We Operate
The ELC Food Pantry occupies a portion of the bottom floor of First Presbyterian Church at 330 Main Street, Northport, NY. The entrance is on the side of the church just off of Main Street. Open four mornings each week (Monday through Thursday, 10 - 12), the pantry is set up like a grocery store, where clients can "shop" once a week from a selection of non-perishable foods, fresh fruits and vegetables, dairy products, bread, toiletries, and a variety of other goods. Each day's activities are supervised by one of four managers, who work as a team to make sure that the shelves are stocked, that the pantry is staffed with volunteers, that clients are properly registered and supported, and that operations comply with guidelines set by Long Island Cares, Inc., our parent food bank. The pantry is supplied from donations of cash, food, and other items from individuals, civic organizations, and businesses in the community.
